Specialized Packing Tips

Ø      Bedding:  Fold and pack all pillowcases, sheets and blankets in clean medium size (3 or 4 cube) cartons.  Have all beds dismantled.  The mover will place mattresses and Box springs, in special plastic bags.

Ø      Books:  Pack in small (1.5 or 2 cube) cartons.  Don’t overload cartons.

Ø      Bureau Drawers:  Remove all items/articles from drawers prior to moving.

Ø      Canned goods:  Place in a small (1.5 or 2 cube) carton.  Don’t overload.

Ø      China & Glassware:  Pack in a China Carton (available from your agent).  Don’t nest unwrapped glasses.  Pack plates, platters and saucers on edges with padding between each layer.  Label each box fragile.  Put heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on the top.

Ø      Clocks:  Remove pendulum and weights in large clocks.  Grandfather clocks should have the mechanism prepared before moving.

Ø      Clothing:  place clothes on hangers in wardrobe cartons (available from your agent).  Fold and pack other clothing in clean cartons.

Ø      Drapes:  Hang drapes over crossbars in wardrobe containers or pack and fold in clean cartons.

Ø      Flammable & Combustibles:  Flammable liquids and aerosols cans must NOT be packed.  Changes in temperature and pressure can cause them to leak or even explode.  For your own protection, you should know that if you pack these items and they cause damage to your shipment or the shipment of others, YOU, NOT THE MOVER, may be held liable.

Ø      Lamps and Shades:  Remove bulbs, harps and shades.  Roll up the cord.  Pack lamps with bedding or in a well-lined carton.  Wrap hard decorative knob with paper and tape on the inside of the carton.  Wrap shade, fill core with paper to help from cracking.  Place in a clean lined carton.

Ø      Linens:  Fold neatly and place in clean cartons.  Sometimes good to use for padding breakable items.

Ø      Medicines:  Seal caps with masking tape.  Wrap and pack upright in small cartons.

Ø      Mirrors & Pictures:  Wrap mirrors or pictures and place inside special cartons (available from your agent).  Pad the bottom with newsprints and before closing pad the top with newsprint.  For added safety, place tape diagonally across mirror to protect better against damage.

Ø      Computers:  Always recommended to use the original cartons.  If not available, speak to your agent about packing.

Ø      Microwave Ovens:  Remove all loose articles inside the oven.  Wrap loose articles in a separate container.  Tape the door shut with an “X” pattern to help protect the glass.

Ø      Rugs:  Roll and place inside cover bags (available from your agent).

Ø      Appliances:  Have an authorized serviceman prepare all large appliances for moving.  Be sure to defrost, clean and dry all the appliances before the move.

Ø      Tools:  Drain fuel from power tools (do not ship flammables under any circumstances).  Pack tools in small, strong cartons.  Wrap separately if valuable.
